Finding a new job can be overwhelming, when you are invited for an interview, there are a few things you can to do make a good impression and present yourself in the best way possible.
1. Before the interview
a. Make sure you know where you’re going, and ensure you get there 5 minutes early. There’s nothing worst than being late for an interview and arriving a little flustered.
b. Know where you’ be parking/ what bus route you’ll be taking well in advance of the meeting.
2. First Impressions count
a. Most people still appreciate a firm handshake when meeting you for the first time.
b. Introduce yourself clearly and confirm you’re pleased to meet them.
3. Body Language.
a. Make eye contact and smile. This sounds super easy, but a lot of people forget how important this is. You are meeting your potential employer and making eye contact builds trust and makes them feel comfortable.
b. Don’t put your hands in your pocket, listen to what’s being said and respond as needed.
4. Dress
a. Always make sure you dress appropriately. Wearing clean clothes is important, most of the time smart causal dress will be fine.
b. If you are visiting a work site/ workshop having steel cap boots and a Hi-Viz is recommended so you able to walk around and see the site with the correct PPE.
5. Communication
a. Do your homework before meeting your potential employer and ask questions about the business.
b. Have prepared questions about their plans for the future and know how you can help them achieve their goals.
